The 1186th Military Police Company was the first Oregon contingent on the ground, along with COL Greenwood, CSM Swogger, and their crew, and a Security Police group from the Air Guard. The 1186th MP Company was alerted and on ground in New Orleans in a matter of 28 hours.

41 Brigade Troops Battalion

Commanded by Major Martin Mote with Command Sergeant Major Thomas Shanley serving as the Senior Enlisted Soldier, this Battalion is comprised of Army Companies and attachments that bring unique skills and resources to the 41 Infantry Brigade Combat Team. The subordinate companies include the Headquarters Company of the Brigade; the 162 Engineer Company; the 241 Military Intelligence Company; the attached Echo Troop of the 82 Calvary; and the attached Bravo Battery of the 2-218 Field Artillery Battalion.

Major Strong is the Task Force Public Affairs Officer. After leaving the Active Force of the Oregon National Guard in May, Major Strong returned to private industry. He was recalled to active service like the rest of this force to support in relief efforts in the Wake of Hurricane Katrina.

I'm attached to the Brigade Chaplain's Office. I've been Chaplain Schrick's Assistant "off and on" for about 7 years. As a member of the Unit Ministry Team, I support the Chaplains in their mission to provide comprehensive Religious Support to soldiers of the 41st Brigade.

At the time, SrA Porter with the 272nd Combat Communication Squadron, Portland, Oregon. I Provided Initial communications (phone and internet over Satellite) for the 41st brigade combat team In the first days of the opperation, Facilitating the employment of all members from oregon into New Orleans (Convent). Also, Provided initial communication at the NOCCA. After completion of that mission, provided communications for the 1-148 from Ohio near lake Pontchartrain. Until they were released, then Provided communication for the 41st brigade (1-186IN),as they headed striaght into the path of Hurricane Rita. Awarded the ARCOM by Maj. Wirth (41st BCT BDE S6).

1LT O'Day

1LT O'Day is a member of the Brigade Operational Law Team, known in the unit as Combat JAGs. Although we dont fly jets like the JAGs on TV, we contribute to the effort by providing legal support to the commanders, while also providing legal assistance to soldiers who may needing legal advice.

I was the JTF RSOI S1 NCOIC for the first part of our rotation. When we closed up the JTF RSOI S1 shop, I went forward into New Orleans with rest of the BCT HQ. All in all, things went well. It was busy but rewarding.
