Douglass Senior High School, which we call FOB Douglass. We have just over 400 soldiers living in this building, along with our Tactical Operations Center for the Battalion, a motor pool, decon site, and showers. Our main mission for the deployment, evacuation of local residents has concluded now that we have canvassed the entire 5th Police District. Mayor Nagin announced a few days ago that he was re-opening parts of the city for citizens to return, so we have established a series of Traffic Control Points (TCPs) to block residents from re-entering our Area of Operation (AO) as our AO is not one of those areas opening back up. Just yesterday we were informed that tropical storm Rita (soon to be Hurricane Rita) was projected to hit the Gulf States by Thursday, so Mayor Nagin has issued an evacuation order again for the city. We are going to stay and help with the evacuation until the storm is about to hit, then we ourselves will move inland to ride out the storm, then re-establish our presence in FOB Douglass to continue the secondary mission we have or providing security in this AO and supporting local law enforcement as they re-establish their precint and 24 hour patrol operations. | SPC Smith - 1-162 INTop Stories
